Current information for 2020-2021 scholarships. The application period for these scholarships is now OPEN.
The Melrose-Wakefield Area Branch of the American Association of University Women is pleased to offer two scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year.
A branch scholarship, which is in the amount of $1,500.00, is available as a result of the fundraising activities of the branch and donations received in memory of branch members and their loved ones. This year the Branch Scholarship will be given in memory of Doris DeAmicis, late of Melrose, who passed away in September, 2019. Doris was a graduate of Bowling Green University. She was a member of AAUW for decades and served as branch president from 1987 to 1989. She was a valued participant in the Midas Investment Club, the Great Decisions Group, The Book Club and the Scholarship Committee. Her fellow branch members miss her spirited and caring presence at meetings and other branch activities.
The other scholarship, which is in the amount of $600.00, is offered from the Diana L. Goldblith Scholarship Fund, which was established by donations from Mrs. Goldblith’s family and friends following her sudden death in June 1990. Mrs. Goldblith, a longtime Melrose resident, was an active and enthusiastic participant in AAUW’s Literature Group, Great Decisions Group, and Stellar Investment Club.
To be eligible, one must have permanent residency in Melrose, Wakefield, North Reading, Stoneham, Georgetown or Wilmington, must attend or be a graduate of a four-year AAUW-accredited college or university, and must have completed at least two years of study prior to the fall of 2020.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who have maintained high academic standing and can demonstrate a need for the scholarship for a specific purpose related to educational goals. All applications will be processed anonymously.
Applications are available here: AAUW Application 2020 ( or click on link at the top of this page) and must be returned by April 15, 2020. The recipients of the scholarships will be notified prior to May 13, 2020.
