Current information for 2023-2024 scholarship.
The Melrose-Wakefield Area Branch of the American Association of University Women is pleased to offer 2 scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year.
The branch scholarship, which is in the amount of $2,000.00, is available as a result of the fundraising activities of the branch and donations received in memory of branch members and their loved ones. This year, the branch scholarship will be given in memory of Ursula Daley, late of Melrose, who passed away in February, 2022. Ursula was a graduate of Cardinal Cushing Girls High School in South Boston, and she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Boston State Teacher college. Mrs. Daley, as her students fondly knew her, taught math at Melrose High School for twenty-five years. She was a member of AAUW for decades and always supported the Scholarship Committee. Ursula was a loving and caring individual, who valued the education of young minds and loved travel and the simple pleasures of life.
The other scholarship, which is in the amount of $750.00 is offered from the Diana L. Goldblith Scholarship Fund, which was established by donations from Mrs. Goldblith’s family and friends following her sudden death in June 1990. Mrs. Goldblith, a longtime Melrose resident, was an active and enthusiastic participant in AAUW’s Literature Group, Great Decisions Group, and Stellar Investment Club.
To be eligible, one must be a resident of Melrose, Wakefield, North Reading, Georgetown, Stoneham, Wilmington, Cambridge, Concord or Georgetown, Maine. These are all communities from which the branch derives members this year. In addition, one must attend or be a graduate of a four-year AAUW-accredited college or university and must have completed at least two years of study prior to the fall of 2023.
Special consideration will be given to applicants who have maintained high academic standing and can demonstrate a need for the scholarship for a specific purpose related to educational goals. All applications will be processed anonymously.
Applications are available here: AAUW Application 2023 ( or click on link at the top of this page) and must be returned by April 18, 2023. The recipient of the scholarship will be notified prior to May 10, 2023.
